Somebody pulls up at 6:40 in the evening. Your door has no hours on it. They cannot tell whether you close at six or seven. They are not going to get out and try the handle, so they drive away and go somewhere that told.
That is the entire business case for a hours decal, and it costs under two hundred dollars. Part of the iCandy Grafix storefront graphics range, usually produced in two to three business days.
There is a natural order to this, working from the top of the door downward, and it matches the order in which somebody standing at the glass will read it.
Business name and logo. This confirms they are in the right place, which sounds obvious until you have watched somebody hesitate outside an unmarked door in a strip centre where four units look identical.
Opening hours, laid out day by day. Do not abbreviate to “Mon-Fri 9-5, Sat 10-4” and leave Sunday off entirely, because now the customer does not know whether you are closed on Sunday or whether you forgot. List all seven days and write “Closed” where you are closed.
Phone number, website, social handles with their icons, payment methods accepted, and any trade licence or registration you are required to display. Delivery partner logos, where relevant, and Wi-Fi availability, if that draws people in.
Push and Pull. Genuinely useful, frequently forgotten, and a small thing that makes a business feel considered.
Hours are read from around three feet away, which means letters are between three-quarters of an inch and one inch tall. Larger than that looks clumsy on a door. Smaller than that makes people lean in, and people do not lean in.
Place the hours block between roughly 50 and 60 inches from the ground. That is a comfortable eye height for the majority of adults, and it clears the push bar or handle hardware on most commercial doors. Check your specific door before finalising the layout, because a decal that lands across a horizontal push bar is unreadable and cannot be moved once applied.
Apply to the inside face of the glass. It stays clean; nobody picks at the corners while they wait; window cleaners cannot scrape it; and it lasts roughly twice as long.
Cut vinyl, matte finish, interior applied. Expect 5 to 7 years, and in practice, most clients replace these because their hours, phone number, or branding changed rather than because the vinyl failed.
White matte vinyl on clear glass in front of a dark or dim interior is the most readable combination available, by a considerable margin. This covers most retail, most restaurants, and most service businesses.
Black vinyl works when there is a bright interior behind the glass, a light-coloured wall directly behind the door, or a well-lit vestibule. On a dark interior, black lettering effectively disappears.
If you are unsure, send us a photo of the door taken during your normal opening hours, and we will tell you which way to go. It takes us thirty seconds, and it is the difference between a decal people read and one they do not.
Seasonal hours are normal in retail and hospitality, and reprinting an entire door block every time is wasteful.
We can produce the layout in two parts. The day names, your name, and your contact details go on as one permanent piece. The times themselves go on as separate small decals sitting alongside. When summer hours start, you order replacement time decals for around thirty dollars rather than redoing the whole thing.
Mention this at the design stage, because the layout has to be built for it from the beginning. Retrofitting it afterwards means starting again.
Store hours are read from about three feet away, so letters between three-quarters of an inch and one inch tall work best. iCandy Grafix places the hours block 50 to 60 inches from the ground so it sits at natural eye level and clears the push bar hardware found on most commercial doors.
The inside, in almost all cases. Interior application protects the vinyl from weather, window cleaning, UV on the adhesive side, and people picking at edges, and typically doubles its working life to 5 to 7 years. Exterior application is used only where interior mounting is not physically possible.
Yes. iCandy Grafix can produce the day names and contact details as one fixed piece with the times as separate small decals alongside, so a seasonal change costs around thirty dollars instead of a full reprint. This has to be planned at the design stage, so mention it when you order.
Business name and logo at eye level, opening hours listed for all seven days, phone number, website, social handles, payment methods accepted, any required licence numbers, and push or pull markings. iCandy Grafix lays these out in reading order so a customer standing at the glass takes them in naturally.
Store hours and door decals take two to three business days after proof approval. If you are local to Anna or McKinney and the artwork is straightforward, faster is often possible. Call (972) 961-3275 if you have an opening date to hit.
