Custom Yard Signs

The most-ordered item in this category by a distance

Senior night. Player of the week. Team rosters on the front lawn of every house on the street. Signing day. Booster fundraisers where every family buys one.

Outside of schools, the same product covers real estate, political campaigns, church events, garage sales, grand openings and contractor site signage. It is the most versatile thing we print. Part of our school spirit and team sports range and stocked in the shop.

Designing a yard sign that people actually read

There is a hierarchy here and getting it wrong is the most common problem with supplied artwork.

  1. The player’s name or number. Biggest element on the sign. This is the reason the sign exists.
  2. The photograph. Second. A good headshot at reasonable size beats a small one floating in white space.
  3. School, sport and year. Third, and smaller than most people assume.

Everything else is decoration. Full team schedules in small type, sponsor lists, hashtags and inspirational quotes all fail the readability test.

Yard signs are read from a car moving at 25 miles an hour or from a pavement at ten feet. Names under three inches tall effectively vanish at the first of those distances. If it will not read from the road, it is taking up space that the name could have used.

Standard build

  • 18 by 24 inches, the size everybody expects and the size H-stakes are made for
  • 4mm corrugated plastic (coroplast), the industry standard
  • Single or double sided
  • Full colour, edge to edge
  • Wire H-stake included
  • Optional UV lamination for signs staying out beyond one season

Other common sizes: 12×18 for directional and small yard use, 24×24, and 24×36 for a stronger presence on a large front lawn.

Life outdoors

Unlaminated coroplast holds colour for roughly 6 to 12 months in Texas sun, with reds and purples fading first, which matters given how many school colour schemes rely on them.

Laminated, closer to two years.

For a single season, unlaminated is fine and cheaper, and that is what we quote for senior night unless asked otherwise. For sponsor or programme signage living on a fence all year, laminate them. The difference in cost is small and the difference in how the programme looks in April is not.

Bulk and personalised runs

Volume is where the price drops sharply. One sign carries the full design and setup effort. Sixty of the same design does not, and per-unit pricing reflects that.

For personalised signs with different player names and photographs on each, we handle it as a variable data merge, so the per-unit cost stays close to a straight identical run. Send a spreadsheet and photograph files named to match the roster.

Stakes and installation

Wire H-stakes are included as standard and push into most North Texas soil without a tool. In dry summer ground, which is most of August and September here, water the spot first or the stake will bend before it goes in. That is a genuinely common frustration for parents installing forty signs on a Thursday evening.

For signs going into hard or rocky ground, or into a flowerbed with landscape fabric, mention it and we will supply heavier stakes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Custom 18×24 yard signs typically cost $18 to $30 each including an H-stake, with the price dropping substantially above 25 units. iCandy Grafix quotes bulk school and booster orders and offers wholesale pricing where signs are being resold as a fundraiser.

The standard senior night yard sign is 18 by 24 inches, which fits a standard wire H-stake and reads clearly from the pavement. Some schools use 24 by 36 inches for a stronger presence on a large front lawn, at a higher per-unit cost.

Unlaminated coroplast yard signs hold colour for 6 to 12 months in North Texas sun, with reds and purples fading first. Laminated signs last around two years. For a single sports season unlaminated is the sensible choice, and lamination is worth it on sponsor signage staying up year round.

Yes. iCandy Grafix produces personalised runs as a variable data merge, so a set of forty individually named signs costs close to the same per unit as forty identical ones. Send a spreadsheet of names and numbers with photograph files named to match.

They can be. Single-sided is standard and suits front lawns where the sign faces the road. Double-sided is worth it for signs placed on corners, at field entrances or anywhere people approach from two directions.
