They also work as a recognition item. A big head of a senior, handed to their family after the last home game, is a keepsake in a way a certificate is not.

This is where big head orders go wrong, and it is worth being blunt about it.
A blurry photograph taken from thirty feet away at a game will not enlarge to a 20-inch head. Neither will a face cropped out of a team photograph, because a face that occupies 200 pixels in the original is 200 pixels no matter how large you print it. It will look soft, pixelated and slightly unsettling.
What works: a straight-on face shot, well lit, taken from a few feet away, at the highest resolution available. A recent smartphone photograph taken from six feet is ideal. Yearbook headshots are usually good if you can get the original file from the photographer rather than a version pulled off a website.
What does not work: cropped group photographs, distant action shots, screenshots, anything sent through a messaging app that has compressed it, and anything older than a couple of phone generations.
Send us the files and we will tell you honestly which ones will hold up before anything prints. We would rather have that conversation in week one than hand over forty signs where six of them look wrong.

Foam board for indoor gyms. Lighter, cheaper, and perfectly adequate where it stays dry.
Two options. A wooden or plastic handle attached to the back, which is sturdier and more comfortable to hold up for a full quarter. Or a hand-hole cut into a tab at the bottom of the sign, which costs less and packs flatter.
For a student section that will hold these up for two hours, attached handles are worth the difference.
